East Midlands
Regional Economic Strategy
The Regional Economic Strategy ‘A Flourishing Region’ sets out a long term vision for the East Midlands ‘to be a place where skilled people work in growing and innovative businesses, where we are all part of thriving and attractive places to live’. It is the widest and most inclusive ever to have been carried out in the region.
This vision is underpinned by three main themes:
- Raising productivity: enabling our people and businesses to become more competitive and innovative;
- Ensuring sustainability: investing in and protecting our natural resources, environment and other assets such as infrastructure;
- Achieving equality: helping all people to realise their full potential and work effectively together to enrich our lives and our communities.
To measure this shared vision, emda developed their innovative Regional Index of Sustainable Economic Wellbeing (ISEW). The ISEW has attracted considerable attention as an exemplar of how to measure economic wellbeing through a single performance indicator.
