LDA’s Achievements
- In 2006-07, created or safeguarded over 20,000 jobs, helped 27,000 Londoners access job opportunities and helped 47,000 Londoners get new skills.
- Maintained London’s position as Europe’s top location for business, ranked as first for access to markets, quality staff, transport links, available office space and languages spoken. In 2005, London attracted 20% more projects that its closest rival, Paris, with Foreign direct investment (FDI) accounting for 27% of London’s economy and half a million jobs.
- From 2005, LDA has helped 99,785 businesses to improve their performance.
- Significant investment funds secured for key infrastructure projects including the landmark Woolwich Arsenal redevelopment of 75 acres of ex-MOD contaminated land.
- Invested over £100 million in the Wembley area – funding the stadium project itself, building a new town square, overhauling Wembley Stadium Station, including a state-of-the-art footbridge, upgrading Wembley Central station and providing business support and training to help people take advantage of new job opportunities in sectors such as retail, entertainment and construction.
- Successfully negotiated development agreements for 5,000 houses at Silvertown Quays and 200,000 square feet of employment space at the Royal Docks.
- Delivered an impressive and winning Olympic master plan. By July 2007 LDA successfully handed over the Olympic park site to the Olympic Delivery Authority – completing one of the largest and most complex land acquisitions in UK history.
- The LDA’s Opportunities Fund – to encourage and support locally delivered projects – has made £28.5m funding available over the next 3 years. This will support 30,000 Londoners find work or attain new skills and 3,000 new and existing businesses will benefit.
- Devised the ‘Visit London’ campaign, the LDA’s strategic response to the dramatic fall-off in tourism after September 2001.
- ‘Creative London’ initiative establishing creative hubs with workspace and support facilities to assist growth in the sector.
