SEEDA’s Achievements
- From 2002-2007, SEEDA created or safeguarded 21,918 jobs, helped set up or attract 5,965 new businesses, reclaimed or developed 303.11 hectares of brownfield land and assisted 126,695 people to develop their skills within the region.
- From 2002-2005, SEEDA also helped 19,892 people to get a job and helped 80,890 businesses to improve their performance.
- Set up network of 22 Enterprise Hubs business incubation establishments at key locations throughout the South East. Over its first 5 years of operation the network has supported over 5,500 businesses, created over 700 new businesses and provided learning opportunities for over 1,100 entrepreneurs.
- Helped create 8,000 jobs through attracting 124 companies from overseas.
- Established a Regional Venture Capital Fund to help business start-ups gain ready access to sources of finance and financial advice.
- Rolled out of successful broadband programme across the region.
- Devised a Basic Skills Strategy for the region to raise levels of literacy and numeracy creating 126,000 learning opportunities which have all been filled.
- Invested over £500 million in urban and rural regeneration projects breathing new life into neglected or derelict areas through job creation and environmental improvements.
- Chatham Maritime, with over £400m of public and private funds invested so far, will provide 3,200 homes and workspace for 2,500 people.
- The Universities at Medway collaborating with SEEDA created a new £50m campus at Chatham.
- Transformed Kent Coalfield where redundant, derelict, former colliery sites are being brought to productive use bringing 2,500 new jobs and £75m of private sector investment to the area.
- Devised a plan for the regeneration of Hastings & Bexhill through a new university, regenerating the town centre and creating a competitive business environment.
