AWM’s Achievements
- From 2002-2007, AWM created or safeguarded 65,701 jobs, helped set up or attract 4,934 new businesses, reclaimed or developed 570 hectares of brownfield land and assisted 101,580 people to develop their skills within the region.
- From 2002-2007, AWM has also helped 5,609 people to get a job and helped 15,961 businesses to improve their performance.
- The Agency has helped 956 businesses engage in new R&D collaborations.
- The Agency has helped lever in £634m in additional public and private sector funding into the region.
- 30 hectares of former gas works site in Coventry derelict for 30 years has been turned into the £40m Ricoh Arena and regeneration project.
- The i54 development on polluted land in Wolverhampton has been turned into a major employment site, creating 6,700 jobs.
- After 25 years of neglect, Fort Dunlop is back in productive use as an iconic hotel, commercial and leisure development.
- The Chatterley Valley project in North Staffordshire has transformed 170 acres of former colliery land into a major employment site, creating around 4,000 jobs.
- The Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS-WM) has helped more than 750 manufacturing companies do business better.
- The Agency has attracted around 35 overseas investments focused on developing the knowledge economy.
- A £70m high technology R&D facility has supported up to 50,000 manufacturing jobs, supplying the premium automotive industry.
- 100% broadband coverage of the region facilitated.
- The adverse economic and social impact of the MG Rover closure was significantly reduced by the Agency’s regional leadership.
