Yorkshire Forward’s Achievements
- From 2002-2007, Yorkshire Forward created or safeguarded of over 100,000 jobs, helped set up or attract 4,809 new businesses, reclaimed or developed 564.30 hectares of brownfield land and assisted 256,721 people to develop their skills within the region.
- From 2005, helped 8,090 people to get a job and helped 11,250 businesses to improve their performance.
- Since 1999 invested over £1.6bn of taxpayers’ money into improving the regions economy, a regional economy that has grown at almost twice the EU average since 2001 and has increased by 27% overall.
- Secured £1.8bn of private sector investment in the region.
- Established the Renaissance programme, a cutting edge approach to bringing new life to the region’s towns and cities, creating shared visions for the future and levering in over £1bn private investment in both urban and rural settings and raising aspirations.
- Led on the development and implementation of Enterprise Shows in 2001, attracting thousands of people interested in starting a business. The last round of shows attracted over 3,000 individuals.
- Rolled out an £11 million programme of Centres of Industrial Collaboration with universities, to help businesses to innovate and access the region’s science base.
- Introduced an R&D grant for Large Companies which has assisted significant businesses to take forward world class research activity.
- York Science City development created 2,600 jobs within the city and the establishment of 60 additional businesses, with the potential for a further 16,000 jobs to be created by 2021.
- Led on the development of the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Waverley, South Yorkshire.
- Provided a £9m investment in a regional framework on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths to re-engage young people in these core subjects.
- Took decisive action to minimise the impact of the closure of the Selby coal complex by coordinating the region's response.
